KATHMANDU: The National Seismological Centre on Wednesday recorded four aftershocks of the April 25 earthquake which had claimed 8,795 lives and injured 22,310. It was the highest number of aftershocks recorded after June 3, when four tremors of below 4.5 local magnitude were felt. A strong aftershock rocked the Kathmandu Valley at 5:58 am. Though the aftershock was of 4.4 local magnitude, the Valley felt strong jolts as its epicentre was in Kathmandu. The aftershock was followed by three other aftershocks of 5.2, 4.0 and 5.1 local magnitudes at 6:14am, 6:26am, and 8am with their epicentres in Sindhupalchowk, the NSC said. All the tremors were felt in the Valley. According to the NSC, the April 25 earthquake has been followed by as many as 324 aftershocks with local magnitude of above 4 as of Wednesday. Succour for elderly KATHMANDU: The Senior Citizen Society Nepal, Kathmandu, has distributed relief materials, including food items, clothes and 500 tarpaulins, to earthquake victims, mostly senior citizens of Sindhupalchowk through Brahma Kumari Rajyog Kendra. A press release issued by SCSN said its chairman Dilliram Nakarmi and Sindupalchowk Chapter chairman Chandraman Talchabhadel had taken the initiative to distribute the relief materials. It has also provide relief to senior citizens in ward no 9 of Kathmandu. DoFE vandalised KATHMANDU: Police arrested 16 suspects for vandalising the office of the Department of Foreign Employment after they engaged in a heated argument with its Director General Bishwo Prakash Subedi on Tuesday. According to police, the vandalism was followed by the heated argument between Subedi and labour agents Laxmi Basnet and Rajendra Basnet. There were around 250 labour agents when the incident occurred. Irate labour agents had shattered eight window glasses of the office. Police were later called in to intervene and prevent any untoward incident. Police have arrested 17 persons, including two women for vandalism.
