KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushil Koirala said the constitution will be drafted through ‘a double fast track.’ Responding to a delegation of the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) at his residence in Baluwatar today, the Prime Minister assured of a high pace in the constitution writing process. “They are talking about the fast track,” PM’s press coordinator Prakash Adhikari quoted PM Koirala as telling to Janajati leaders, “But, I think we should adopt a double-fast track.” He, however, maintained that the due process should not be breached in name of the fast track. “It can be shortened though,” he added. The Nepali Congress President reiterated that he will immediately step down after promulgation of the constitution. Koirala said the 16-point agreement signed by four major political parties on June 8 does not deprive people of their right to have their say on contents of the constitution. He also assured leaders of the indigenous communities that the new constitution will assure identity, culture and language of all people in the nation. Meanwhile, the NEFIN delegation led by its President Nagendra Kumar Kumal submitted a memorandum to the PM demanding that the new statute protect their rights.
