KATHMANDU: The United Nations Organisation (UNO) has recently picked Nepal Scouts as its partner organisation. The social organisation has been contributing to the physical, intellectual, social and spiritual development of children, teenagers and young people in Nepal for 62 years. Lauding the active and effective role this social organisation played in search and rescue and relief operations following the April 25 quake, the UNO selected Nepal Scouts as its partner organisation since mid-May 2015. Speaking at a ceremony organised at the Nepal Scout's headquarters to mark its 63rd anniversary on Saturday, Rabin Dahal, Chief Commissioner of Nepal Scouts, shared that it was a matter of happiness to collaborate with the UNO. Following selection for the partnership, Nepal Scouts, in collaboration with the United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), conducted a special training on disaster management in various 32 quake-hit districts by mobilising around 70 Scout leaders and Young Scouts (Rovers and Rangers), Chief Commissioner Dahal said. In addition, Nepal Scouts has also signed an agreement with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to facilitate the relief distributions in the quake-hit zones in the country, Dahal added. 'It is an honour bestowed to Nepal Scouts for its reliable, selfless contribution towards the community,' he commented. Sharing that the Nepal Scouts is in the process of obtaining international standardisation mark (ISO), Dhahal said that the organisation is going to revamp in terms of physical infrastructure, human resources and the organisational physical state.
