Sherpa bags Carlsberg Golf Series opener

Kathmandu. June 27 Pemba Sherpa won the title of the first edition of the Carlsberg Golf Series here at the Gokarna Golf Club today. Played under sableford 3/4 handicap format, the eight-handicap amateur golfer Sherpa accumulated 42 points to finish first in the tournament. Sherpa scored 22 points on the front nine with the help birdies on the fourth and seventh holes against bogeys on the second and sixth. On the latter half, Sherpa suffered three bogeys and carded a birdie on the final hole to add 20 points. South Korean Young Man Go was second with 41 points, with the 15-handicapper scoring 20 on the front nine and 21 on the back nine. Tashi Tsering won the gross section trophy with 38 points, while Lobsang Tashi came second with 36. Sandhya Rai lifted the women’s section title with 25 points, whereas Kalyani Moktan finished second with 23 points. Former Chief of Army Staff Prajwalla SJB Rana won the senior category (above- 60) award with 35 points, while Sam Doublard bagged the junior (below-17) section trophy with 38 points. Likewise, Lt Gen Toran JB Singh won the closest-to-the-pin award, while Rene Vijay Einhaus bagged the longest drive trophy and Sonam Norbu Lama carded four birdies to claim the most birdies award on count back. In all, 84 golfers took part in the event. Deputy Managing Director of Gokha Brewery Pvt Ltd, Surendra Silwal, Marketing Director Ashish Bista, Sales Director Arun Adhikari and President of Gokarna Golf Club Suhrid Ghimire handed over the prizes to the winners. The three-tournament series will continue with the second edition on August 29, while the final tournament is scheduled for October 3.
