POKHARA, June 27 : Senior Unified CPN-Maoist leader Baburam Bhattarai today said that it would be better if the Supreme Court remained quiet on the 16-point agreement, as the deal was reached between four political forces for the drafting of the constitution. Speaking at a programme organised in Pokhara today, former prime minister Bhattarai said that the country had failed to get a new constitution due to ‘some problems’. “Therefore, it is better not to obstruct the constitution-drafting process, as political parties now have reached an agreement to iron out many issues to deliver the much-awaited constitution,” said Bhattarai. Four political forces — Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Unified CPN-Maoist and Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum-Democratic — on June 8 had signed the 16-point agreement to pave the way for constitution drafting. But responding to a write petition filed by a former ambassador and a rights activist, the Supreme Court on June 19 issued an interim order against the implementation of the agreement, saying some of the points were against the Interim Constitution. However, signatories of the deal have claimed that the SC crossed its boundary by issuing the order. Bhattarai added that it was essential to give a political way out to the country by delivering the new constitution. “People will be fed up with politics if we cannot issue the constitution this time as well,” he said. Bhattarai, who is also the chair of the Constitutional-Political Dialogue Consensus Committee of the Constituent Assembly, informed that the Constitution Drafting Committee of the CA would present the draft constitution before the CA in a couple of days. “The draft will be made public by mid-July after discussing it in the CA,” he added. Bhattarai said that a national consensus government would be formed after issuing the constitution.
