KATHMANDU: Visual artist Sarita Dongol has dedicated 25 years of her life to Nepali art. She is active in different forms of art — painting, installation as well as performance art. The founder of Community Children Art School, she is the art educator at Himalayan College of Engineering. Dongol has won various awards and accolades — Arniko Yuwa Puraskar Samman (2011) and Hem Ghanga Young Talent Women Artist Award (2013) among others. In future she wants to continue her profession along with plans to expand her art school and dedicate herself in art education. Here she gets nostalgic about her college days MY ALMA MATER(S) I did BFA from Lalitkala Campus, Bhotahiti in 1998 and completed my MFA from Central Department of Fine Arts, Tribhuvan University, Kirtipur in 2013. COURSE STUDIED I studied Creative Painting among others. COLLEGE LIFE It was an enjoyable period. Those hard working days were the key step for the future. BEST OF COLLEGE LIFE College life was the time to not only gain and share knowledge, but also a period to learn to have patience. LASTING MEMORIES I used to go to field landscape painting with my friends. And one day we went to Changu Narayan for the same. While working there, time just passed and we missed our last bus from Changu Narayan to Kathmandu. So, we walked all the way from Changu Narayan to home. LESSON LEARNT I learnt that one should not be impatient. With practice, hard work, passion and continuity to what s/he is doing, one can be successful in life. WORDS TO HEED Whatever subject you have chosen is the best subject. Don’t have the feeling that a particular subject is not useful and another subject has great value. Whatever subject you choose, to get success you have to have dedication, hard work and honesty. Without these things you would be a failure no matter what subject you have chosen. HOW TO ACE IN COLLEGE College life never returns. So while being in college you should have fun along with learning. However it all depends upon you to ace in college. You have to manage your time and should know what’s appropriate at what time.
