Of late the Nepali movie industry has featured many talented foreign actors. Moin Uddin talks to three eminent artists who are now an integral part of this industry about their journey to this side of the world

Alize Bianniac Alize Biannic Model, dancer and actor from France Tell us about yourself. I was born in Brittany in France. I left home at the age of 10 to follow an artistic path. I am from the street, from a very poor community. Later I decided to leave London, sell my furniture and go to the unknown; however, I wasn’t sure why. Can you tell us about your upcoming movie? I had the pleasure to work with a great cinematographer and director like Rajesh Shrestha; however, I can't disclose the story. What are your plans for the future in the Nepali movie industry? I have been approached by a few directors but to take it to the next level I have to learn the language as many scripts demand the Nepali touch. Hanna Geschewski Student and actor from Germany How did you come to be in Nepal? I am originally from Northern Germany. I came to Nepal in 2009 as a volunteer and have been living here ever since. Life’s been good in Nepal. How was it working in Nepali films? I really enjoyed being surrounded by many talented and creative people, who really want to bring a change to the Nepali movie scene. Plus - the location was heaven. We stayed and shot in Rupa and Begnas Tal, which became two of my favourite places in Nepal. So what's next for you? I have no fixed plans. If I get to read a script that interests me, I would definitely think about it. However, college is my first priority at the moment. Catalijne Janssen Singer from The Netherlands How did movies happen to you? I was fascinated by acting since childhood and always emulated actors on television. I got my first break in a Dutch movie — until then I didn’t dare to dream of a career in musical theatre or movies. How were you discovered in Nepal? For the movie ‘Karkash’ they were searching for a foreign woman to play the lead role. They found me through a casting agency and called me for an audition and that is where it all began. Do you plan to work on any more projects? I am always open to new projects. I would love to come to Nepal some day to share my music. Acting though will always have a place in my heart and, thankfully, there is enough time to do both. Photos: Skanda Gautam/THT
