Fresh earthquake hits Bajura in Far-Western Nepal

KATHMANDU: A light earthquake hit remote Bajura district in the Far-Western Development Region on Tuesday afternoon. According to the National Seismological Centre, it recorded a tremor of local magnitude 4.6 at 3:16 pm NST (UTC 9:31). It was not related to the devastating earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25 killing thousands of people, and has been acknowledged as an independent earthquake. The coordinates of epicentre 29.69°N,81.74°E, provided by the NSC, show that the epicentre was close to Madana, northeast of the district headquarters Martadi. Earlier, a moderate earthquake of local magnitude 5.4 was recorded in Rukum of the Mid-Western Nepal on June 25. Meanwhile, the number of significant aftershocks (of local magnitude 4.0 or above) of the April 25 earthquake has reached 347. The official death toll of the devastating earthquake, named Gorkha earthquake, and its aftershocks has reached 8897 till Tuesday afternoon.
