KATHMANDU: The Annual General Meeting of The Himalayan Times chapter of the Federation of Nepali Journalists on Wednesday unanimously elected Jaya Ram Gautam as its new president. Earlier, the AGM approved the resignation tendered by Som Nath Bastola on June 30. The meeting also elected Chandani Ghimire as FNJ central representative, which became vacant after Gautam was elected the FNJ’s THT chapter president. The AGM was held in the presence of FNJ Central Treasury Suryamani Gautam, and Central Members Roshan Puri and Suraj Acharya. The programme was conducted by FNJ THT chapter Secretary Agni Prasad Luitel. Con man held KATHMANDU: Police on Wednesday arrested a 64-year-old man on charge of defrauding four persons of four million rupees with the false promise of lucrative jobs in Australia. Hem Bahadur Ghale of Dharan Municipality-6, Sunsari, had swindled Ram Krishna Prajapati, Kabindra Shrestha and Krishna Gopal Shrestha of Bhaktapur, and Rajan Dangol of Kathmandu of one million rupees each, said the Metropolitan Police Crime Division. The accused had taken them to Bangkok before running away, leaving the victims in the lurch in foreign land. Fugitive nabbed KATHMANDU: Police nabbed a convict of bank forgery from New Baneshwor on Wednesday. Patan Appellate Court had convicted Ram Chandra Timilsina, 38, of Jupu-1, Achham, of fraud and sentenced him to three years in jail with a fine of Rs 10.6 million. According to the Central Investigation Bureau, Timilsina was among the persons who did not pay back the loan of around Rs 446 million to the Thapathali-based Crystal Finance Limited. He was produced before Kathmandu District Court for the execution of the verdict. Youth falls to death LALITPUR: A youth died after he fell into a gorge in Bhainsepati, Karyabinayak Municipality-4, on Wednesday. Pratik Bista, 22, of Tokha, currently residing in Balkhu, Kathmandu, had slipped into the gorge while trying to enter a cave. He along with his friends had reached the area for a visit. The body has been sent to Patan Hospital for post-mortem, police said.
