Police arrested eight persons on charges of looting property worth Rs 44.5 lakh from 22 houses in Kathmandu during the last three months. According to DIG Ashok Shrestha at the Valley Police Office, Ranipokhari, the group was robbing houses in the name of Maoists. They started looting after they snatched a pistol from a police inspector at Babarmahal four months ago. Ramesh Tamang (27) from Kavre, Lal Bahadur Subedi (25) from Morang, Rolash Thapa (20) from Sindhuli, Joglal Tamang (30) from Kavre, Raju Lama (23) of Kavre, Surya Lama (19) from Kavre, Dhan Bahadur Tandukar (30) from Kathmandu and Ran Bahadur Thing (24) from Bara have been arrested. Police recovered Rs 903,125 from them and seized the looted pistol and a virgin cartridge of bullets. Police arrested Prabesh Rokka of Gorkha, on charges of stealing Rs 1 million and 25 kg gold jewelleries from Ankur Narsingh Rana’s house at Nirmalmarg last Monday. Rokka had been working as a domestic helper in the house for two years. Police seized Rs 769,280 cash and and some valuables from him. Police arrested Kedar GC of Kavre and Harikrishna Hyaju of Bhaktapur for cheating Rs 77.4 lakh. The duo had withdrawn Rs 54.9 lakh from Kosh Tatha Lekha Niyantran Karyalaya, Kathmandu, and Rs 22.5 lakh from Kosh Tatha Lekha Niyantran Karyalaya, Bhaktapur.
