LAMJUNG: Cases of violence against women have been on the rise in Lamjung despite various campaigns to curb the crime. According to female cell of Lamjung District Police Office, as many as 69 complaints of domestic violence were registered in the fiscal year 2014/15. Nandu Adhikari, head of female cell at the DPO, said that among the 69 cases, 42 were resolved through reconciliation, 24 were pending and three others were forwarded to court for legal process. Adhikari said that most of the cases were related to polygamy, abuse under influence of alcohol, assault and household dispute among others. Foreign employment has been attributed as the main reason behind the rising cases of domestic violence. Female members are usually dominated by their family members after their husbands leave for foreign jobs. In other cases, women go through abuse after their husbands return from employment. According to the female cell of DPO, violence against women was on the rise despite the campaigns launched in different places of the district. Youth in custody DAMAULI: District Court Tanahun on Friday remanded Narayan Prasad Poudel, 38, of Majhthana VDC-8, Syangja, to custody on charge of human trafficking. A single bench of Judge Krishna Prasad Poudel passed the verdict. Security personnel were conducting investigation into the alleged after a 22-year-old woman of Gorkha filed a case accusing Poudel of his involvement in human trafficking. According to a complaint lodged by the woman, Poudel lured her and took her to Chitwan intending to ‘sell’ her in India, while she was en route to Gorkha from Khairenitar of Tanahun on June 26. She was rescued from Namaste Tanduri Hotel of Chitwan by the police on June 29. She was unconsciousness when rescued. District Police Chitwan had transferred the case to Tanahun police on July 10 saying that the incident took place in Tanahun. Poudel was an employee as security guard in India. Memo submitted RAUTAHAT: Jamait Ulama-E-Nepal on Friday submitted a memorandum to Constituent Assembly Chairman Subas Nemang through chief district officer, demanding amendments to five clauses of the draft constitution. A rally led by Jamait Ulama-E-Nepal’s chairperson Abdul Ajij Siddhiki passed through the Gaur Bazaar area before reaching the local administration and handing over the memorandum to Chief District Officer Madan Bhujel. Two dead in accident RAUTAHAT: At least two persons died on the spot while six others were injured after a commuter bus collided with a tractor at Lamaha of Chandranigahapur along the East-west Highway in Rautahat on Friday morning. The bus en route to Janakpur from Kathmandu rammed into the tractor plying the same route at around 5am. The deceased have been identified as Som Bahadur Majhi, 50, and Kul Bahadur Majhi, 22, of Nijgadh, Bara, informed DSP Netra Mani Giri of Area Police Office, Chandranigahapur. Binesh Majhi along with tractor driver Dhan Bahadur Majhi sustained critical injuries in the incident and are being treated at Narayani Sub-regional Hospital. Other injured have been receiving treatment at Chandranigahapur Hospital. According to DSP Giri, the bus driver has been at large. As per police’s preliminary investigation, speeding was the cause of the accident. Suggestion on draft KATHMANDU: Demand has been made for granting the status of constitutional body to the Nepal Law Commission. On Friday, a delegation from the commission including its President Umesh Chandra Jha called on Constituent Assembly Chair Subash Nembang at his office and submitted its suggestions.
