Kathmandu, June 9:

Minister of Education and Sports, Radha Krishna Mainali, during a meeting held this week, directed the newly-formed 11-member committee — which was formed on May 17 to suggest

the ministry how it could promote nationalistic feeling through the national curricula — to include chapters that would generate ‘nationalistic’ feeling. The committee will have to submit its recommendations to the ministry by July 15. Stating that the term ‘nationalistic education’ had been misinterpreted, he directed the committee to include the subjects in the curricula that could be more relevant and skill-oriented. Jagannath Awa, director-general at the Curriculum Development Centre, said the committee will begin its work once the committee members submit the report on the revision of the existing curriculum. The next meeting of the committee will be held after the committee members submit the revision of the existing curriculum.” Though the 11-member committee formed headed by Jagannath Awa had named Dinesh Raj Pant, Dr Hridaya Ratna Bajracharya, Narayan Sharma, Baburam Pokhrel, Chintamani Yogi, Til Bikram Nemwang as its members, Nemwang, citing differences, did not attend the meeting. Awa said the CDC has included teachers’ and students’ code of conduct in most of the newly-printed textbooks. The photos of the King, the Queen, the Crown Prince, and the Crown Princess have been included in some of the recently-published textbooks.
