KATHMANDU, August 8 Constituent Assembly members from the Tharu community on Saturday formed a Tharu CA Members Struggle Committee (TCSC) to fight for the rights of their community. According to Gopal Dahit of Tharuhat Tarai Party, the TCSC was formed under the leadership of Ram Janam Chaudhary — a leader of the Bijay Kumar Gachhadar led MJF-Democratic and Unified CPN-Maoist CA member Aman Lal Modi has been selected as the spokesman of the struggle committee. Dahit said all the 36 Tharu CA members representing different parties will be members of the struggle committee. “We have already informed all the top leaders of the parties about the formation of TCSC and have also told them that the struggle will begin as soon as the new constitution is promulgated as they do not trust them,” Dahit said. All the 36 Tharu Constituent Assembly members of different parties will be members He further said the movement of the Tharu community has already begun in Kailali and Kanchanpur against the Akhanda Sudur Paschim (Intact far-west) strike and the TCSC will plan for the struggle within a few days. “We will first meet the leaders and inform about their concerns before going for the movement,” he said. On Saturday they had jointly met UCPN-M Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Chairman of Constitutional Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee of the CA Baburam Bhattarai and Chairman of MJF-Democratic Bijay Kumar Gachhadar. During the meeting the Tharu Constituent Assembly members told the leaders that they would not accept any of their districts included in the hilly Pradeshes. The leaders, including Dahal had said they might have to compromise some Village Development Committees for the sake of the constitution. “In response we said some VDCs could be considered but not the district as a whole,” he said.
