Peaceful protest to keep mid-west undivided

SURKHET, August 14 The protest demanding undivided Mid-west region and Surkhet as its capital continued in Surkhet on Friday, but in a peaceful manner. The agitation had gone out of hand after three persons were killed in course of a demonstration on Monday. It ended on a peaceful note on Friday after the local political parties took charge, with the parties holding a peaceful demonstration at Surkhet district headquarters Birendranagar. The administration had clamped curfew in the area for three days after the agitation took violent turn. The curfew was lifted yesterday, as political parties took charge of the agitation. Earlier, the protest was spearheaded by the civil society groups. Parties, including Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Unified CPN-Maoist, Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal and CPN-Maoist staged rallies, as well as a joint demonstration in the district headquarters Khalanga on Friday. Amidst an all-party meeting at the district administration on Friday, the parties agreed to take charge of the protest turn-wise in order to make it peaceful and restrained.
