12 UAE returnees held with over one kg gold

KATHMANDU: Police on Saturday night arrested 12 persons in possession of more than one kilo undeclared gold from the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). The precious yellow metal, weighing 1.048 kg, was brought to Nepal from the United Arab Emirates evading customs charges, police added. The confiscated gold is worth around Rs 4.64 million as per the current market rate. Police had seized 11 gold pieces and seven bracelets from them during a checking at the prepaid taxi counter of the Airport. They had landed in Kathmandu from Dubai of the UAE via a Fly Dubai flight. The arrestees and the seized metal have been sent to the Sinamangal-based TIA Customs Office for further investigations.
