Only 8, including 7 police and a child, killed in Kailali clashes, claims Far-Western Regional Police Office

DHANGADHI: Amid conflicting media reports about casualties in violent clashes in Tikapur of Kailali district, the Far-Western Regional Police Office (FWRPO) claimed that only eight persons including a minor were killed. SP Tulasi Prasad Adhikari, Information Officer at the FWRPO, said five Nepal Police personnel, two Armed Police Force personnel and two-year-old boy were killed when the supporters of Tharuhat movement clashed with security personnel this afternoon. They have been identified as SSP Laxman Neupane, Police Inspector duo Balaram Bista and Keshav Bohara, Constable duo Laxman Khadka and Lokendra Chand of Nepal Police. Likewise, APF Head Constable duo Ram Bihari Chaudhary and Lalit Saud were also killed. Saud's son, Tek Bahadur, also lost his life in the clash. Chief District Officer Raj Kumar Shrestha said as many as 42 police personnel were injured in the attack. Five of them are said to be in a critical condition and are being airlifted to Kathmandu. Meanwhile, the District Administration Office clamped a curfew in the area since 7 pm on Monday. Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Minister had told the House that five Nepal Police personnel and some Armed Police Force personnel were fatally attacked by the protestors. According to him, Head Constable Chaudhary was burned alive, while SSP Neupane was fatally impaled with spear and two Inspectors -- Bista and Bohara -- and Constable Lokendra Chand were hacked to death using sharp weapons.
