Five more held for Tikapur killings

Dhangadi, August 26 Kailali police today arrested five more persons for their alleged involvement in the killing of seven police personnel, including SSP Laxman Neupane, and a two-year-old boy on Monday. With this the number arrests in the incident has reached 10. Those arrested today are Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum-Democratic Kailali Area No 1’s regional chairman Ram Prasad Chaudhary, 44, Khadak Bahadur Chaudhary, 55, Ram Janam Chaudhary, 17, Prem Bahadur Chaudhary, 41, and Sundarlal Kathariya, 27. All those arrested have been kept at District Police Office. “Investigation is under way,” police said. Meanwhile, Kailali District Administration Officer today clamped curfew in Dhangadi from 11:00am to 6:00pm today. The curfew clamped in Tikapur since Monday is still in place. DAO had declared Tikapur, Attariya, Bhajani Municipality, Narayanpur, Joshipur, Khailad, Pathriya, Bahuniya, Munuwa, Durgauli, Dhansinghpur VDCs riot-hit zones yesterday and Nepali Army has been deployed there. Curfew and prohibitory orders have left migrant workers coming from India stranded at many places in India, while daily wage earners in the affected areas have been hit hard. Kailali CDO Mohan Chapagain said preparation was on to convene an-all party meeting to chart out a strategy to ease the situation. A team of the National Human Rights Commission led by NHRC member Sudip Pathak has arrived in Tikapur area to investigate into Monday killings. Mohandev Joshi of NHRC Regional Office Dhangadi said the team would meet security personnel and political parties to take stock of the situation.
