ID distributed to around 3,000 people with disabilities in Myagdi

MYAGDI: Identity Card has been distributed to around 3,000 people with disabilities in Myagdi so far. A total of 2,838 people with disabilities have received their IDs as of the end of the previous fiscal year, according to the Women and Children Office. Of them, 181 received ID of ‘A’ category, 922 of ‘B’ category, 721 of ‘C’ category and 832 of ‘D’ category, assistant women development inspector Bindu Sharma said. Likewise, 113 people with disabilities received their IDs without any category distinction. In the previous fiscal year 2014/15 alone, 165 people with disabilities received their official ID card. The number of people acquiring their IDs is increasing, as it is mandatory to avail of the facilities provided by the State. The Office has also been distributing the IDs through mobile camps, says women development officer Nirmala Sharma. There are an estimated 6,200 people with disabilities in Myagdi, according to the Disable Association Myagdi. Meanwhile, the women development office is to establish a disability help desk in order to facilitate support to the people with disabilities. A dedicated desk has been established in order to manage the ID distribution work and make disability-related communication effective, adds Sharma.
