Docs warn of indefinite strike

Kathmandu, August 30 Resident doctors of the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital and MBBS students at the Institute of Medicine have warned of an indefinite strike from Monday to show solidarity with Dr Govinda KC, who has been staging fast-unto-death since August 24. Accusing the government of not paying heed to the demands put forth by Dr KC, a meeting of the Nepal Resident Doctors’ Association (NRDA) held on Sunday decided to boycott all services, except emergency, in the TUTH from Monday. The veteran orthopedic surgeon’s hunger strike entered its seventh day on Sunday. He has forwarded a six-point demand seeking overhaul of the health sector. “Dr KC’s plea has fallen on deaf ears. We have concluded that the government is not going to take his demands seriously until we express solidarity with him by halting all services, except emergency,” NRDA Chairman Dr Ram Chandra Sapkota.
