Pokhara, September 1 Nepal Bharat Maitri Vidyalaya recently hosted their Annual Inter School English Debate Competition at the auditorium in Pension Paying Office, Embassy of India, Pokhara. The competition was organised with the aim of promoting proficiency in articulation of thought and public speaking. Speaking both for and against the motion, the students debated on the topic: ‘Mobile phones have adversely affected our social life and emerged as a new form of addiction’. Educationists Sudha Alurkar and Milan KC were judges in the competition, while Nira Purja Pun and Hemant Kumar Singh of the school, Aahva Gyawali and Anusha Khand of St Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Garima Sapkota of Balodaya Higher Secondary School, and Sandip Dahal of Sainik Awasiya Higher Secondary School brought laurels to their respective schools, according to a statement issued by the organiser. The host school won the Overall Excellence Trophy while St Mary’s Higher Secondary School and Sainik Awasiya Higher Secondary School secured second and third positions respectively. Ripudaman Mann distributed prizes whereas Colonel Man Raj Singh Mann, defence attaché, Embassy of India in Kathmandu, offered concluding remarks. Colonel Man Raj said the topic was very relevant as use of mobile phones had increased. Mobile phones are an excellent means of communication and it is up to individuals to decide the upon its use, he said.
