Agitators, police clash in Dhanusha, Mahottari

Janakpurdham, September 1 Clashes broke out between cadres of United Democratic Madhesi Front and police personnel during the indefinite Tarai Madhes strike called by the front in Dhanusha and Mahottari districts today. Police clashed with agitators, who pelted stones at the Railway Police Post and Customs Office in Janakpur. Police fired dozen rounds of tear gas shells to disperse the mob. Protesters vandalised the door of the customs office. They also vandalised the ambulance of Nepal Red Cross Society Dhanusha. Ten agitators were injured in the incident. They are undergoing treatment at Janakpur Zonal Hospital. Dhanusha SP Ganesh Bahadur Thapa said police had fired four dozen tear gas shells and blank shots to bring the situation under control. Meanwhile, UDMF activists vandalised the party office of Nepali Congress in Mahottari district headquarters Jaleswor. Eight agitators including police personnel were injured in a clash that erupted between protesters and police personnel at Durga Chowk in Jaleswor. Police fired some rounds of tear gas shells to bring the situation under control. Earlier, Janakpur chapter of Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) had staged a rally expressing solidarity with the agitation. The rally that started from FNCCI office had made a round of the city before converging into a corner meet at Shivchowk.
