Lalitpur, September 2 Golden Gate, LRI and White House registered wins in the Ncell U-18 Inter-college Basketball Tournament at the Army Physical Training and Sports Centre in Lagankhel on Wednesday. In the first match of the day, Golden Gate came from behind to register a narrow 43-42 victory over Xavier riding on 18 points from Siddharth Shakya. Xavier took 11-2 lead in the first quarter before Golden Gate bounced back in the second, winning it 9-7 to reduce the deficit to seven points. Xavier then won the third period 16-10 to extend their lead to 13 points. But Golden Gate dominated the final quarter scoring 22 points and restricted Xavier to just eight to register a dramatic win. Jasang Sunuwar of Golden Gate received man-of-the-match award. In another match, LRI dominated all four quarters in their 64-40 victory over Saipal Academy. LRI opened with 16-7 lead and never looked back. LRI scored 17-8 in the second period to lead the match by 18 points. LRI then took the third and final quarters 13-11 and 18-14 respectively for a huge victory. Player-of-the-match Bibek Shrestha netted 27 points for LRI. In the last match of the day, Nilay Maharjan’s 26 points helped White House to a 48-24 win over NAMI College. White House took control of the match from the beginning. They netted 12 points and did not allow NAMI to score in the first quarter. White House scored 16 and 15 in the next two quarters, while NAMI managed just 10 and seven. NAMI took the final quarter 7-5 but it was too late for them to bounce back in the match. Maharjan was named man-of-the-match for his performance.
