Gaighat, September 7 With everyday essentials running out of stock due to the ongoing strikes, traders are all set to pull their shutters down in Udayapur. Godowns of local traders have been empty due to lack of food supply for long following the bandh called by the Madhesi front and other agitating groups in Tarai districts. Vehicles, markets, industries, among others, have remained closed for the past 27 days in Udayapur. “All the goods we had in stock have run out. Many traders are thinking of pulling down their shutters following the same,” lamented Bharat Rai, trader and first Vice-president of Triyuga Chambers of Commerce. Udayapur Chambers of Commerce Chairperson Gajendra Bhagat said retailers had no option but to shut their businesses for want of everyday essentials. “Similar is the plight of wholesalers,” he said. Udayapur Cement Factory, the country’s largest cement factory, has been worst hit due to the long closure. They have not been able to export their products out of the district due to the bandh, said senior officer Mahesh Kafle. As the supply of cement has been obstructed, the factory is having a hard time paying monthly salary and other allowances to its employees, he said.
