Now, the CA will vote on the entire constitution draft
KATHMANDU: The Constituent Assembly (CA) endorsed the Preamble of the draft constitution.
After endorsing the individual articles, CA Chairman Subas Chandra Nembang had put the Preamble on vote.
It also endorsed Article 301 of the constitution, which defines title and date of commencement of the constitution, with a clear majority.
Accordingly, the new constitution will commence on Sunday, September 20, 2015.
The Article was put on vote later after endorsement of the Preamble.
Meanwhile, the CA meeting has been halted for half an hour after endorsing all articles and Preamble of the constitution.
(Updated)KATHMANDU: The Constituent Assembly (CA) individually endorsed all articles of the draft constitution, ensuring the promulgation of the new charter on September 20.
One article - Article 301 - which is about title of the constitution, however, will be put to vote at the end, according to Constituent Assembly Chairman Subas Chandra Nembang.
The voting process that began on Sunday concluded on Wednesday evening.
With the individual articles, amendment proposals registered on them were also put to vote simultaneously.
All of the amendment proposals jointly registered by major three parties – Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and UCPN-Maoist - got endorsed with a clear majority.
None of other proposals could get a nod from the constitution writing body.
More than two dozen lawmakers had filed amendment proposals on various provisions of the statute.
Currently, the CA is holding voting on amendment proposals registered on Preamble of the draft constitution.
After endorsement of the Preamble, the CA will vote on the entire constitution draft.
While voice voting was conducted for endorsement of individual articles and amendment proposals, the entire draft will be endorsed through a split voting.
