UDMF cadres impose blockade at Birgunj border point

BIRGUNJ: As many as 100 cadres of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) on Thursday imposed a blockade at Dasgaja, the Indo-Nepal border, near Birgunj. According to Sadbhawana Party Chairman Rajendra Mahato, the cadres have been staging demonstration at Dasgaja since this morning to pile pressure on the government to address their demands at the earliest. Organising a press conference in Rajbiraj on Wednesday, the UDMF had announced to shut down government offices, banks and customs points and to intensify protests on highways in Birgunj, Biratnagar, Raxaul, Bhairahawa, Kakadvitta, Nepalgunj and Suanauli. Nepal Sadbhawana Party Chairman Anil Kumar Jha, central leader Shiva Patel and Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal Parsa chapter Chairman Pradip Yadav among others have been staging demonstration. The UDMF has been staging demonstrations in various districts of Tarai for the past 42 days to protest the promulgation of new constitution and federalism. Normal life in Tarai districts has been adversely affected due to continuous bandh and strikes.
