Khotang, September 25 Chisapani-based Primary Health Centre in Khotang recently launched lab service as a doctor was deployed at the centre after more than a decade. The health centre, established around 15 years ago, had failed to provide even basic health services due to the lack of manpower. Dr Ramsufal Ram has been deployed at the centre. According to Chairperson of the centre Devendra Shrestha, the centre’s building built around two years ago at the cost of Rs 2.4 million has also come into use with the arrival of the doctor. “Though we had a building with morgue, parturition ward, OPD and emergency ward, we were unable to put it into use for want of doctor and necessary equipment,” said Shrestha. District Health Office Chief Dr Madhav Prasad Lamsal said the health facility did not have any doctor since most of the doctors preferred to work elsewhere citing remoteness of the district. According to health workers at the centre, they will now be able to cater to a large number of patients suffering from various health complications. The health centre provides services to the people of over two dozen Village Development Committees in southern Khotang and some bordering villages of Bhojpur. Earlier, the locals had to either charter choppers or carry patients on stretchers to health centers.
