Over the years, Sur Sudha has come to be known as the cultural ambassadors of Nepal. And they still seem steadfast in their devotion and commitment to the cause of Nepali classical music. After having concluded a remarkable musical odyssey in Europe recently, the acclaimed classical band is embarking on a musical tour to Japan on June 28. Sur Sudha’s
“on the road concert” which began on May 3 and took place at different European countries including Estonia, Switzerland, Belgium, England, Netherlands concluded on June 13. Tabla specialist Surendra Shrestha says, “With Asia House’s special input, the concert was a tremendous success. Though all the concerts were wonderful the concert at London was the most memorable.” The concert, which was organised as a fundraiser for the Yeti London Welfare Foundation, was brought together by the generous support of Prabhal Shumshere, Nepalese Ambassador to United Kingdom, Stefan K, chief executive, Asia House and Infinity International.
While Yeti London Welfare Foundation is a registered UK charity established in 1997 as the welfare wing of the Yeti Nepali Association UK, Asia House is an organisation aimed at promoting a greater understanding of the varied cultures of Asia through various cultural events. The concert, due to be held in Japan, is scheduled to be organised in Nagoya from 2 to 19 July where the band will perform its classical instrumentals in three consecutive concerts. The concert, which is sponsored by Kotoi Suzuki, a Japanese national, has already received a lot of publicity. “It is a message of peace from the Himalayan kingdom that we want to spread all over the world,” says Surendra Shrestha.
