DPM Singh holds meeting with Bhutanese PM

NEW YORK: Deputy Prime Minister Prakash Man Singh, who is leading a Nepali delegation to the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly, held a meeting with Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay in New York on Saturday night. During the meeting, issues related to Nepal-Bhutan relations, constitution promulgation through the Constituent Assembly (CA) in Nepal and Bhutanese refugees were discussed. It has been learned that the duo discussed the ways to further strengthen the bilateral relations. Foreign Affairs Minister Mahendra Bahadur Pandey was also present at the meeting. On the occasion, DPM Singh thanked the Bhutanese Prime Minister for Bhutan’s medical and financial support made during Nepal’s deadly earthquake. Saying that Nepal’s constitution was promulgated from the two-thirds majority through the CA, DPM Singh told the Bhutanese leader that the political parties in Nepal would move ahead by joining hands together for constitution’s implementation. According to Singh, the Bhutanese PM welcomed the promulgation of the new constitution in Nepal. It is said that discussions were held to end the problems of Bhutanese refugees in a friendly manner as it was in the interests of both the countries. Likewise, DPM Singh lauded the achievements made by Bhutan in the hydropower sector. Prime Minister’s foreign affairs adviser Dr Dinesh Bhattarai, Acting Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Shankar Das Bairagi and Nepal’s Permanent Representative to UN in New York Durga Prasad Bhattarai among other high officials were present in the meeting.
