KATHMANDU: Vice-President Paramananda Jha has urged the government and the ruling parties to hold meaningful and result-oriented talks with the parties that are in agitation in the Tarai Madhes. 'I heartily request for addressing the demands of the Tarai Madhes through discussions, dialogues and agreements with prompt initiatives on behalf the government,' the Vice-President stated in a press statement today. Stating the Constitution of Nepal is under implementation after its promulgation through the majority process and in accordance with the wishes of the Nepali people of writing the constitution from own representatives, the Vice-President said it was a matter of happiness that the new constitution has been delivered by the Constituent Assembly. 'However, it is not good to neglect the agreements and understandings signed in the past with the marginalised communities of the state and several provisions made through the amendment to the then Interim Constitution of Nepal based on those agreements and understandings,' the press statement reads. The agitation underway in the Tarai Madhes region over the last 45 days has led to the death of more than 40 people including protestors and security personnel and has badly affected public life. The Vice-President has suggested that the demands of the agitating sides could be addressed by removing the obstacles by exercising the authority of removing the obstructions as provided in Article 305 of the present Constitution of Nepal. 'However, meaningful and result-oriented talks are needed between the political parties and the agitating sides for all this to happen,' Jha asserted.
