KATHAMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) said people’s basic human rights have been violated due to ongoing strikes, protests and subsequent shortage of daily essentials. Expressing its concern over the country's ongoing situation in a press release today, the Commission said border points-, highway-centred agitations have created crisis of petroleum products, medicines and other consumables. As a result, citizens are deprived of using their rights, which is against human rights documents, the national human rights watchdog commented. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1948, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights 1966 and International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights 1966, in which the government has signed, have been violated, according to the NHRC. Therefore, the problem must be solved soon through dialogues and discussions, the Commission requested to concerned parties. The Commission also asked businesspersons to perform their responsibility with sensitivity by smoothly supplying the consumables to people. The constitutional body added that the government has to show attention to control black marketing in the time of crisis.
