BHAIRAHAWA: Tension ran high in Bhairahawa after a clash erupted between cadres of the agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) and police personnel on Tuesday. It has been learned that the cadres crossed the Nepal-India border in Bhairahawa and pelted stones at the country’s police personnel. According to Krishna Prasad Dhakal, Chief District Officer of Rupandehi, police have arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in hurling stones at security personnel. The UDMF has been staging demonstrations in various districts of Tarai for the past one-and-a-half months to protest the promulgation of new constitution and federalism. Organising a press conference in Rajbiraj on Wednesday, September 23, the UDMF had announced to shut down government offices, banks and customs points and to intensify protests on highways of Tarai.
