Bajura, October 1 District Court Achham sentenced a man to 44 years in prison for selling his wife in India. A single bench of Judge Hari Prasad Upadhyaya Sharma slapped Amar Bista, 56, of Dhanku VDC with 44 years’ jail term yesterday. The court slapped a fine of Rs 310,000 and reparation of Rs 155,000 to the victim. The court, however, gave clean chits to two people — Min Bahadur Bista and Amar’s wife Tulchhi Bista. Amar had convinced a woman to marry him and before he sold her off, he had kept her with him in India for 18 months. The victim said she fled after some men came to her room saying they had bought her for Rs 3 lakh. Lawyer Khadak Khadka said the decision would reduce incidents of human trafficking.
