Oli sworn in as Prime Minister; forms Cabinet with two DPMs and five ministers

KATHMANDU: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav administered the oath of office and secrecy to newly elected Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli amid a function at Sheetal Niwas on Monday. Oli was elected the 38th Prime Minister of Nepal by defeating Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala yesterday. He had garnered 338 to defeat Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala, who was restricted to 249, during the prime ministerial voting held at the Parliament. Prime Minister Oli has formed a small cabinet incorporating two Deputy Prime Ministers -- Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal Chairman Kamal Thapa and Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum-Democratic Chairman Bijay Kumar Gachhadar -- and five ministers -- Agni Prasad Kharel, Som Prasad Pandey and Satya Narayan Mandal from CPN-UML, Haribol Gajurel from UCPN-Maoist and Ram Kumar Subba from RPP-Nepal. In the same function, President Dr Yadav administered the oath of office and secrecy to the Deputy Prime Ministers, and the ministers separately. Portfolios of all ministers, however, have not been fixed yet. Oli will extend the Cabinet later. Vice President Parmananda Jha, Speaker Subas Nembang, outgoing Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, Acting Chief Justice Girish Chandra Lal, Chief Secretary, Chief of Army Staff of Nepal Army, Inspector Generals of Armed Police Force and Nepal Police, leaders of various political parties, top government officials and diplomats of various diplomatic missions in Kathmandu attended the swearing-in ceremony.
