Nepal settle for a draw with Hong Kong in two-day match in Abu Dhabi

KATHMANDU: Nepal played a draw against Hong Kong in the two-day match at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium Nursery1 in Abu Dhabi on Friday. Chasing a target of 313, Nepal were 155-7 at close on the second day of the practice match. Earlier, Hong Kong declared their second innings at 203-7 after Nepal declared at their overnight score of 106-1. Tailenders Basant Regmi and Bikram Sob survived the last five overs to force a draw. Earlier, Nepal came under early pressure after losing opener Mahesh Chhetri (five) and Naresh Budhayer (five) with just 17 runs on the board. Anil Mandal and Sharad Vesawkar added 84-run partnership for the third wicket to take the team towards safety. Mandal struck five fours and a six in his 95-ball 44. while Vesawkar scored 47 off 74 balls hitting seven boundaries. Nepal then lost five wickets for 45 runs as Hong Kong pressed for victory but Regmi and Sob stood firm at the crease. Nepal will now play a 50-over match against Pakistan in their first-ever contest against Test-playing nation on Sunday. Nepal are currently in the UAE to play the World Cricket League Championship matches against Papua New Guinea on November 16 and 18.
