Chautara folks to get quake-proof houses

Kathmandu, November 6 Minister for Forests and Soil Conservation Agni Prasad Sapkota is scheduled to hand over a disaster resilient model houses to Bhuvaneshwor Lamichhane, executive officer of Chautara Municipality,Sindhupalchok, next week. A press statement issued here today by the Japanese Embassy in Kathmandu said that since May 25, 2015, Peace Winds Japan and the Institute for Sustainable Actions for Prosperity have jointly implemented Nepal Earthquake Relief Project in Sindhupalchowk district. The project is funded by Japan Platform. It said so far, Corrugated Galvanized Iron sheets have been distributed to 2,505 households and model housing programs have been carried out in the same location. It further said that 58 local masons were trained in constructing earthquake-resilient houses based on the government’s curriculum and eight such houses have been constructed with design assistance from National Society for Earthquake Technology Nepal. “The building shall be used for community purposes by women’s groups, dairy collection centres, and forest users’ groups,” it said, adding, “In order to expand its function, awareness programs to local home owners have also been planned for this month.” According to the statement, PWJ, established in February 1996, is dedicated to the support of people in distress, and/or threatened by conflict, poverty, or other turmoil, and operates in many parts of the world. It has been extending humanitarian services globally with the vision of “A world where people can live without the threat of conflict and poverty, full of hope and respect for one another.”
