Say they are yet to receive details from various money transfers contrary to KMPR’s claims Kathmandu, November 9 The government prosecutors failed to produce the alleged transaction papers between the match-fixing accused footballers and international agents as claimed by the police, before the Special Court. The Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range had on October 15, a day after arresting five footballers on match-fixing charges, issued a press release with the list of fixed matches and amounts received by the footballers. But the police failed to produce the list before the court in the charge-sheet filed at the Special Court on Monday. In the charge-sheet filed against the footballers seeking life sentence as per the Article 3-3.1 of Crime Against the State Act 2046 in the charge of subversion, police have said that they were yet to receive documents from various institutions. “We have asked various money transfers, Passport Department, All Nepal Football Association and Immigration Office regarding the transfer of amounts in the defendants’ accounts. We will submit the details as soon as we receive the documents from these institutions,” the police said in the charge-sheet. According to one of the lawyers of the five defendants, the claims of police till date regarding the transaction of amounts from international bookies were not true. “They do not have the documents to prove that the players received money from international agents,” the lawyer said. “Police have not included the documents in the charge-sheet.” The Office of the Attorney General on Sunday registered the subversion case against national team skipper Sagar Thapa, Sandeep Rai, Ritesh Thapa, Anjan KC and Bikash Singh Chhetri at Special Court. Another accused, former national team physiotherapist Dejib Thapa, is currently in the United States of America. They five footballers were produced before the court this morning to record their statement and hearing over judicial custody. Because of the lack of the time, the players were sent back to police custody for the day. The KMPR had claimed that the footballers received $3,061 to $5,000 from the various matches of Merdeka Cup, Nehru Cup, SAFF Championship, Asian Games and international friendlies from 2008-2014. The ANFA and Asian Football Confederation have provisionally suspended the accused players from football-related activities.
