KATHMANDU: The Special Court is likely to release the match-fixing accused football players on bail today.

One of the lawyers of the five defendants says the claims of police till date regarding the transaction of amounts from international bookies were not true. “They do not have the documents to prove that the players received money from international agents,” the lawyer said. “Police have not included the documents in the charge-sheet.” Police had filed a subversion ('rastra biplav') case against them, as per Section 3.3.1 of the Crime against State and Punishment Act, 1989. Police presented five footballers who face treason charges for alleged match-fixing in international games that Nepal played have been presented before the Special Court in the Capital on Sunday. National football team skipper Sagar Thapa, his deputy Sandeep Rai, goalkeeper Ritesh Thapa and former players Anjan KC and Bikash Singh Chhetry on match-fixing charges on October 14 were arrested by Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range.
