KATHMANDU: United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) delegation has called on Speaker Onsari Gharti at her office at Singha Durbar, on Monday. The Nicholas Oakes-led delegation congratulated Speaker Gharti as she was elected to the post and wished for her successful tenure as well. Oakes works as a refugee protection officer. Suraj Kumar Dura, personal secretary of the Speaker, informed that the delegation briefed about UNHCR's jurisdiction and latest updates of refugees in the world including Nepal. Similarly, the delegation expressed their concerns over the problems seen in the areas of refugees and related current legal provision in Nepal as well as expressed commitment to co-work in the areas of refugees in Nepal. Similarly, Speaker Gharti assured the delegation to amend the laws and acts regarding the refugees that are already in the progress of amendment after the promulgation of the new Constitution.
