KATHMANDU: In a bid to conserve wildlife, the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) has signed an agreement with the President Chure Tarai Madhes Conservation Development Committee (CTMCDC) to carry out a study on the status of wildlife in the Chure region. Annapurna Nanda Das, Member Secretary of the CTMCDC, and Govinda Gajurel, Member Secretary of the NTNC signed the agreement to this effect on Monday in the presence of Minister for Forest and Soil Conservation Agni Prasad Sapkota, also Chairman of the NTNC and Rameshwor Khanal, Chairman of the CTMCDC. Issuing a statement, the NTNC said that the study will be carried out using the latest modern technologies and that after the study, effective measures will be recommended for the conservation of wildlife by identifying their habitat challenges in the Chure region. To be carried out by dividing the Chure into four zones, the study will be coordinated by the government and the Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation. It would be implemented with the cooperation of the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation, Forests Department, the CTMCDC, the NTNC and local people among others. As per the agreement, the study will be carried out at a total cost of around Rs 30 million, of which the CTMCDC will bear around Rs 25 million and the rest is to be borne by the NTNC.
