Kathmandu:

With the increase of readership of English Newspapers and magazines, many new English magazines are making their way into the market. ‘Life and Society,’ a monthly English magazine that has already published four of its issues, organised a formal launch of its fifth issue at Hotel Durbar on July 15. Siddharth Navin, publisher and consulting editor of the magazine said, “We sent our earlier issues directly to the market as a trial without having a formal launch to receive feedback from the readers.” Unlike others, Life and Society claims itself to be non-political, non-fiction and non-gossip monthly magazine that covers human life and our society. Yogi Vikashananda said, “At a time when the common Nepali consciousness is either of ‘fight or flight’, a great responsibility lies on the part of journalists and the writers to shape the reader’s thought by presenting the balanced picture of the society, rather than highlighting the negativity only.” Chief guest Tara Nath Sharma said, “English magazines that aim to market even outside the country should include subjects like philosophy, spiritual thoughts and yog because that is what we are rich in and can boast about.” The magazine is also planning to have Nepali edition in the near future.
