Border blockade crime against humanity, claims Pathak

By RISHI RAM BARAL

POKHARA: Sudip Pathak, a member of the National Human Rights Commission, said the Madhesi agitators should not block import of essential goods at Indo-Nepal border points in the name of peaceful demonstration. He even claimed that the blockade by the Madhesi protesters resulted in a humanitarian crisis and it was a crime against humanity. He further said peaceful demonstrations could be accepted in democracy, but to halt the border point was inappropriate and illegal. Speaking with journalists today in Pokhara, he urged the demonstrators not to create any obstruction at the border points and requested them to declare the peaceful demonstrations within 24 hours. He further said Nepali people are in a dire need of medicines and food items. The blockade has made the condition of more than 30 million Nepali people pathetic, he added. Pathak urged the government to find a solution to resume the border points to ease the supply of essential goods to Nepal.
