United Democratic Madhesi Front leaders and cadres observing silence to pay tribute to the people killed in the Madhes agitation on the 100th day of the movement, in Ghantaghar, Birgunj, on Monday.

Birgunj, November 23 Sadbhawana Party, a constituent of United Democratic Madheshi Front, Chairman Rajendra Mahato today said that the 100 days’ peaceful agitation and 60 days’ blockade had become a historical agitation. Speaking at a press meet organised to mark 100 days of the agitation in Birgunj, Mahato accused the government of using force to foil their agitation. He held that their agitation was not for disintegration of the country but for keeping the country’s unity intact. Mahato commended the patience, bravery and audacity demonstrated by Madhesi people during the long agitation. He clarified that government’s force could not solve the crisis in the Tarai. “A solution can be sought only if the government changes its egoistic and autocratic mentality,” Mahato added. Mahato condemned the government for the death of agitators in Saptari. He said UDMF would not sit for talks just to have tea and biscuits. “We will not sit for talks unless the big three parties form a common stance on our demands,” Mahato added. Mahato accused the government of infiltrating the agitation to vandalise the ambulance and set the drug-laden truck on fire. “We have no policy of vandalising and torching vehicles carrying medicine and ambulances,” Mahato clarified.
