KATHMANDU: The government has said a rapid process was put in place for commercial import of fuel from China. The Ministry of Commerce and Supplies was in touch with the Chinese side for the fuel supply into the country, the government said. The Ministry has already sent a letter to China through the Ministry the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informing its decision regarding the tax exemption on fuel import. Minister for Commerce and Supplies Ganesh Man Pun had an unofficial visit to the northern neighbour last month. During his meeting with the Chinese officials, China had reportedly assured of providing fuel to Nepal through commercial channels. Earlier, a two-member delegation of the Nepal Oil Corporation also visited China to discuss technical matters and other issues for commercial fuel supply. NOC Deputy Executive Director Sushil Baral has already returned home and informed the government about progress on the fuel supply process to the government. Talking briefly to the Rastriya Samachar Samiti, Minister Pun today said Nepal will import fuel from China in a commercial way along with tax exemption. The country has been hit hard by a severe fuel crisis resulted from the prolonged obstructions at Indo-Nepal border points and the Tarai-Madhes agitation. The Government of China earlier provided 1.3 million litres of petrol to Nepal as its goodwill gesture to the close neighbour.
