DHANUSHA: The ongoing agitation in Tarai-Madhes against the new Constitution, currently in the fourth month, seems to be waning with slim presence of protesters on the streets and major Indo-Nepal border points. Furthermore, most market areas, educational institutions and industries have opened, of late. Besides, daily life is returning to normalcy gradually with the resumption of transportation services. Unlike in the past when the protest was at its peak, the number of the protesters staging sit-ins at various border crossings is dwindling significantly over the past two weeks, while educational institutions, factories and other organisations in various areas of protest-stricken districts including Janakpur are in the full operation. For instance, a temporary hut set up at Malangawa-Sonbarsa border point in Sarlahi for the protesters to take shelter while staging demonstrations has been recently removed. The protesters said that they are fed up as demands seem nowhere to be addressed even as they have been intensifying the protest for long. However, some leaders of the agitating Madhes-centric political parties blamed increasing cold and business of farmers in their seasonal farming for the dwindling number of the protesters on the streets.
