Dhading, December 17 Though a large number of people, organisations and the government had provided immediate relief materials to the victims of the earthquake of April 25, adequate help in terms of clothes, bed sheets and shelters have not been provided to the victims in Dhading. The quake victims of the district, who had been displaced after their houses turned to rubble, have been taking shelter in the vicinity of the district headquarters Dhadingbesi and Maidi, Dhola and Tripureshwor among other places and have been facing a hard time due to the severe cold. As many of them don’t possess warm clothes and spacious shelter, they have been forced to live in the open, burning firewood throughout the night. They have tents but not enough bedding and warm clothes to protect themselves from the cold. They demanded that the government provide them with necessary relief to cope with the dipping temperature. “Though the government pledged to provide warm clothes before the winter this year, nothing came,” the victims regretted. Man Singh Tamang, one of the victims at Alchhidanda camp of the district, said children, elderly persons and new mothers had been hit the hardest due to the bone-chilling cold. Many of the children in the camp have complained of fever, common cold and pneumonia, whereas the elderly have complained of chest problems. More than 1,300 households of the district had been displaced due to the April 25 earthquake and frequent aftershocks.
