Birgunj, December 25 The protracted Tarai agitation has adversely affected services at Narayani Sub-regional Hospital, Birgunj. Medical Superintendent at the Narayani Sub –regional Hospital Dr Ramashankar Thakur said the ongoing agitation had also thrown the hospital’s preparations to provide CT scan service in limbo. The Department of Health Services had provided the hospital Rs 40 million to start CT scan service. But equipment imported for the purpose from India remains stranded at Raxual for months. Dr Thakur said that he had requested the leaders of the agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front to allow them to bring the equipment from across the border, but to no avail. The hospital was planning to install a CT scan machine at OPD of Obstetrics Department. A separate transformer has also been installed at the hospital for the purpose. The hospital said that five doctors, eight health workers and cleaning staff had been appointed and trained for the operation of neonatal intensive-care unit at the hospital.
