India beat Nepal 4-1 in SAFF Championship, enter semis along with Sri Lanka

KATHMANDU: India scored four goals, three in the second half, to defeat Nepal 4-1 in their Group A match of the SAFF Championship at Trivandrum Stadium on Sunday. With today's results, India entered the semi-finals as the group topper along with Sri Lanka. India's Chhangte scored two goals at 81st and 89th minutes, and captain Sunil Chhetri one at 67th to help his team take a lead at 67th minute.   - Bishal Rai has been replaced by Yogesh Gurung at 57th minute. - Nepal and India have made changes for the second half. Jagajeet Shrestha replaced Bimal Gharti Magar, who scored for Nepal, in the second half, while India sent Chhangte in Sanju Pradhan's substitution.   SAFF Championship: Nepal, India 1-1 at half time KATHMANDU: Both Nepal and India have scored one goal each in the first half of their Group A match in the ongoing SAFF Championship at Trivandrum Stadium. This is Nepal’s first goal after September 2013. Magar tapped the ball, which rebounded from the bar, into an empty net to make breakthrough for Nepal. Nawayug Shrestha had charged the ball after collecting from Rohit Chand from his own half but it hit the bar and rebounded.   SAFF Championship: Crucial match between Nepal, India kicks off KATHMANDU: The second Group A match of SAFF Championship between Nepal and hosts India kicked off at the Trivandrum Stadium at 6:30 pm local time on Sunday evening. Nepal lost 1-0 against Sri Lanka in the Group A opener on Wednesday, while India defeated Sri Lanka 2-0 on Friday. With no point on the table, Nepal are  in do-or-die situation. They can qualify to the semi-finals if they won the match. India are currently at the top of the table with three points, while Sri Lanka are second on inferior goal difference. Biraj Maharjan is captaining the team Nepal as Anil Gurung has been put on the bench. Likewise, India have put Robin Singh and their regular goalkeeper Gurpeet Singh on the bench. In the last five encounters, Nepal and India have won one match each while they ended up with three draws.
