JANAKPURDHAM: The Janakpur city in Dhanusha district saw a number of sporadic clashes between protesters affiliated to various Madhes-based political parties and police throughout the day on Monday. A clash erupted between police and cadres of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) as the latter hurled a petrol bomb at the Janaki Chok-based police post this afternoon. Before the incident, they were staging a demonstration nearby the police post and police were urging them to leave the place. After the bomb was hurled, police had resorted to lobbing tear gas shells and opening the blank fires to disperse the mob. The protesters, however, pelted stones at law enforcement personnel in retaliation. Police said six of their personnel were injured in the Janaki Chok clash while around a dozen of protesters were also hurt. Earlier, in the morning today, the Federal Inclusive Madhesi Alliance had taken out a buffalo march, sparking tension in the city. Meanwhile, the FIMA cadres also joined the UDMF protest programmes to intensify the protests.
