Kathmandu, December 28 The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority today discussed with government authorities the issue of providing the promised compensation to earthquake victims immediately. The anti-graft body discussed with high-level representatives from the Prime Minister’s Office, Finance Ministry, Home Ministry, Health Ministry, Federal Affairs and Local Development Ministry and heads of all three security bodies regarding immediate response to earthquake victims after media reports and the complaints lodged at the CIAA that victims were dying due to cold. Following discussions, the CIAA decided to provide the promised compensation amount to the victims within a week, besides supporting them with other essentials immediately. “After identifying the most vulnerable areas, an Emergency Medical Response Team will be dispatched by the Health Ministry from tomorrow,” a press release issued by the CIAA states. The meeting also decided to supply whatever materials the government has in stock for the victims, including clothes and food grains. The government will also give priority to transportation of essentials to earthquake victims while distributing fuel. It also stated that the CIAA would monitor the activities of government bodies.
