Bajura/Lamjung, January 20 It has been snowing heavily in hilly and mountainous areas since yesterday evening in many districts across the country. Freezing cold triggered by snowfall has hit life hard. Hilly and mountainous regions of Bajhang, Humla, Jumla, Mugu, Bajura, Darchula, Baitadi and Achham, among others, have received heavy icefall. An ice sheet has blanketed the highlands in these districts. Snowfall has adversely affected life at BIchhnya, Dahakot, Pandusen, Kanda, Rugin, Kailashmandu, Chhatara, Manakot and Martadi’s highlands in Bajura. Heavy snowfall has also obstructed movement of people and mules at Kolti Bazaar in Martadi. Nature’s wrath has shut the people indoors. Similarly, heavy snowfall has hit life very hard in Kanda, Dolichaur, Surma, Gadara, among other places in at Bajhang. Icefall has caused a lot of inconvenience to people in Dolpu, Kirami, Polu in Mugu, among other places. Lok Bahadur Biswokarma said that snowfall had disrupted the supply of goods and commodities and movement of people and livestock in Mugu. Due to heavy snowfall, flights to and from Nepalgunj to Bajura, Humla, Jumla, Dolpa and Mugu have been cancelled. Civil Aviation Authority Nepalgunj said that up to 40 flights from Nepalgunj were closed from today morning. Hriday Saud from Kailshmandu said that snowfall had been delayed by one month compared to last year. Likewise, snowfall coupled with rainfall at many places has elated farmers. Similarly, more than one dozen VDCs including Paink, Jhapra, Ramidanda, Rokayagaun have received heavy icefall in Jajarkot. Dilli Bahadur Thapa of Dhime VDC-1 said biting cold resulting from snowfall had made their lives very difficult. Hukam, Taksera and Syalkhadi, among other places of Rukum, were struck by snowfall. There was snowfall in the district headquarters Khalanga too. Local Bishnu Budha said that it was still snowing at Sisne, Gotamkot, Hukam, Taksera, Kankri, and Mahat VDCs. Three-feet high snow has blanketed Mugu’s highlands including Dolfu, Mugu, Kimri, Rara, Murmatap, Khamale, Sorukot, Dumana, Talch, Rara airport and Mandu. Snowfall has also shut locals indoors. Transport service and the airport in Mugu have been shut. More than one dozen vehicles were stranded at Nagma-Gamgadhi road section along Karnali Highway due to the presence of four-feet of snow. Anowfall has led to a sharp increase in cold. Temperature measured at minus 10 degree Celsius at Mugu headquarters Gamgadhi today. It has been snowing in more than ten VDCs in Manang. Snow ranging from two to three feet has piled up at human settlements, roads and streets above district headquarters Chame. Acting Manang CDO Dhirendraraj Pant said snowfall had completely disrupted movement of people and vehicles in the areas above Chame. Annapurna Conservation Area Project Manang said tourists en route to Thorangla were safe. Similarly, highlands in Lamjung too have received snowfall. Heavy snowfall at Khudi, Bhulbhule, among other places, has caused excessive cold. Likewise, snowfall has struck the upper lands of Taplejung and Panchthar areas. Snowfall has hit life hard in Olangchunggola, Yangam, Ghunsa, Lelep, Gyabla, Tokpegola, and Falel in Taplejung. Many places in Panchthar too have received icefall. District Police office Taplejung said that two-feet snow had piled up on the premises of Pathivara temple. Snowfall has caused the temperature to nosedive at many places including Taplejung.
